Jack Del Rio Comes Home to Coach Raiders

Castro Valley native and Hayward High alum has been hired to coach storied franchise.

Hayward High alumnus Jack Del Rio has been been chosen to be the next head coach of the Oakland Raiders. He was formally introduced at a press conference in Oakland, Jan. 16. Del Rio takes over a Raiders team that struggled in 2014 and finished the season with a 3-13 record. Del Rio has worked as an assistant coach with the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and Denver Broncos. He was head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2003-2011. While attending Hayward High and in addition to being a star football player, Del Rio was also a standout basketball and baseball player. Del Rio was born in Castro Valley and graduated from Hayward High in 1980.
